Sandy Silverberg
The second album · Sandy Silverberg

Authenticity

More comfortable in my skin.
Still finding things to say.

Love, family, old wounds, new beginnings—and the occasional laugh at my own expense. Ten tracks. A good deal of living.

A note from Sandy

The booklet was
just the beginning.

If you’re here with the booklet in your hand, welcome back. If you found your way here another way, pull up a chair.

There I was, 68 years old, no formal musical training, trying to impress a girl. So, of course, I decided to write a song.

Chutzpah? Hubris? Dumb luck?

The younger me could never have written these songs. I hadn’t lived enough yet.

These songs come from lived experience. There is humor here, as well as tenderness and hurt. I wanted room for all of it.

Here you can spend a little longer with the songs, the words, and the stories behind them. Thank you for listening.

In album order

The songs

Nine songs. One gets a second voice.

01

Authenticity

More joy. More kindness. Less auditioning for somebody else’s idea of me.

Behind the song & selected lyrics

I spent years chasing the brass ring. Writing No Regrets, I began to hear myself in the songs. These days, I’m comfortable in my own skin.

The only thing to set me free
a life with authenticity.
02

Check the Box

I don’t need someone who checks every box. I need someone who makes me forget the list.

Behind the song & selected lyrics

One too many dating profiles read like a shopping list. As if checking every box could deliver a great relationship. I’ve been dating since my mid-fifties. The lists haven’t gotten shorter. I’d like to fall in love before the requirements change again.

At every age, hope springs eternal
Still want fire, a great inferno
03

You Touched Me

Being touched and feeling touched aren’t the same. This is about the joy to be found in being touched in every way.

Selected lyrics
Heart, mind, body, soul
In every way, you make me whole
04

Father of the Bride

She never needed me to tell her who she was, and she always gave me plenty of reasons to be proud.

Selected lyrics
Here we are, her wedding day
My only job, give her away
As if I ever had a say
05

Until You Couldn’t Stay

Mom was the person we measured ourselves against. She still is.

Selected lyrics
We held you close, as you held us
Until you couldn’t stay

Preview recording — final version coming soon.

06

Triggered

It’s about old wounds showing up in new fights—and learning to notice them before they do all the talking.

Behind the song & selected lyrics

Sometimes the argument in the room has been going on inside us for years. I wrote “Triggered” about old wounds showing up in new fights—and learning to notice them before they do all the talking.

The reasons change, the fight’s the same
The never-ending “who’s to blame”
07

We Can’t Be Friends

When the idea of you and me is too exhausting to continue.

Selected lyrics
The journey changed but love remained
A place not quite so deep
08

Disengage

We had a past. I’ve stopped living in it. You should too.

Selected lyrics
You’re poisoning your life
It’s time to disengage
09

I’m Amazing

Think of who you respect the most. Now respect yourself that much.

Behind the song & selected lyrics

The lyrics arrived in a Costco aisle. I was pushing my cart, laughing to myself, and hoping I’d remember the words long enough to get outside and write them down. Apparently, my muse wears a hairnet and hands out cheese samples.

I don’t like everything I do
But I do like who I am
10

Triggered

Vocals by Devyn Rush

Same words. Two voices. Different feels.

Behind the song & selected lyrics

The words are the same. Devyn brings her own phrasing and perspective to them. I wanted to leave room for that other way of hearing the song.

The reasons change, the fight’s the same
The never-ending “who’s to blame”
Track 06 / Track 10

Same words.
Two voices.
Different feels.

Triggered — featuring Devyn Rush

The words are the same, but none of us hears them from the same place. Devyn brings her own life to the song, and suddenly the meaning shifts. Every listener hears the same words and remembers their own truth.

I sing the first version; Devyn’s interpretation closes the album.

Acknowledgments

Thank you

Special thanks to Greg and Clint, my trusted collaborators, always there to make the music sound great, even when the timing is tight.

I want to thank my three sisters, Rena, Susan, and Benita, who have consistently provided both a critical and supportive ear while these songs were being developed.

Special thanks to my friend Michele Strauss. She is typically the first person I send drafts to because of her deep love and understanding of music and her constant encouragement.

Keep the conversation going

Which song stayed with you?

I’d love to hear what you heard in it. A memory, a laugh, a line that landed somewhere unexpected.
